The Panasonic model 42PV500 delivers TV PAL signals and DVD-movies in brilliant colors. Skin color, which often appears reddish, had a very natural appearance. Conventional Plasma TV models of older generation often have irritating color noise. The 42PV500 makes it much better: This negative effect appears only marginally and only if you look very detailed. The Panasonic model is fulfilling the HD-ready specifications. You can connect HD-Signals via Analogue YUV-Component Input or Digital HDMI-Interface. The 768 lines screen reproduced 720 and 1080 signals very crisp and sharp. At the front cabinet you can find headphone jacket and good accessible Video and Audio terminals - so ideally for connecting a digital camcorder. You can also enjoy your photos without a camera, you only need to put your memory card in the Slot (1 x SD-Format, 1 x PCMCIA for other cards with additional adaptor), then your personal slide show can start. You can even record your TV-Programs on your memory card, what a great function.

The Conclusion of the Testing Team Is:

For a Plasma with XGA-resolution this model is surprising cheap. In points of brightness and contrast several LCD and Rear Projection TV are better than the 42PV500 (especially in rooms with bright condition), however in points of colors and homogeneity the 42PV500 is convincing even more. Movies are being reproduced absolutely credible (natural) - and this is what we expect from Home Cinema. A little bit less Overscan and a less nervous De-Interlacer would valorize this model even more.

Panasonic enters now at the HD resolution-age. The new flagship (the500-series) is "HD Ready". On the front side you can find PC- and SD card slots - the slide show can start easily.

TH-42PV500 did a good job on HDTV via YUV-component and also on PAL via HDMI. Panasonic achieved test winner status well deserved "no other Plasma could get closer to CTV-picture quality than this PDP."

The TH-37PV500's pictures are quite possibly the best and most consistent we've seen on any plasma TV. Ever. For starters, there's the TV's absolute best point, its contrast. TH-37PV500 serving up stunningly profound black levels. These immaculate black levels have profound impact on the picture as a whole. For instance, they make the picture look exceptionally solid, thanks to the deep foundation they provide to the rest of the color spectrum...... There really isn't anything seriously bad to say about the TH-37PV500.
